Forum Title: Ro Accutane Pharmacy - Questions & Experiences

Nick123 (Newbie)
Hey everyone! I’m considering using Ro to get Accutane for my severe acne. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it safe and effective?

DrMedic89 (Moderator)
Hi Nick123! Thanks for asking on the forum. It's great you're looking into all your options. Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, is a powerful medication that can be very effective in treating severe acne. However, it comes with some serious side effects and risks, which need to be carefully considered.

Before starting any treatment, I would strongly recommend consulting with a dermatologist or healthcare provider who can assess your skin condition and discuss whether Accutane is the right choice for you. They will also monitor you throughout the course of the medication.

Thanks so much for that advice, DrMedic89! I actually already have an appointment with a dermatologist soon. She recommended Ro as one option to get Accutane. Any tips on what else to consider before going ahead?

That's great to hear you're seeing a professional first, Nick123. Here are some key points and questions you should consider discussing with your dermatologist:

  1. Effectiveness: Accutane can be highly effective but may not work for everyone. It’s important to set realistic expectations.

  2. Side Effects: Common side effects include dry skin, lips, eyes, nose, and mouth; joint pain; muscle aches; and possible changes in mood or behavior (including depression). More serious risks like increased risk of liver problems or birth defects are also important to consider.

  3. Monitoring: Regular check-ups and lab tests will be required while on Accutane to monitor for potential side effects. This includes pregnancy testing if you’re a woman of childbearing age, as the medication can cause severe birth defects.

  4. Alternatives: Make sure to discuss other treatment options available, such as topical treatments, antibiotics, or light therapy, and how they compare in terms of effectiveness and risks.

  5. Cost: Understand the costs associated with getting Accutane through Ro versus another pharmacy and whether it’s covered by your insurance plan.

I took Accutane a few years ago, and I can confirm it works wonders for severe acne. However, the side effects were something to deal with. My advice would be to follow all of the doctor’s instructions carefully, especially regarding skin care and sun protection, as your skin will get very dry.

Thanks so much, HealthySkinGuru! I'll definitely keep that in mind about the side effects. DrMedic89, do you have any tips on how to manage those side effects?

DrMedic89 (Moderator)
Certainly, Nick123! Managing the side effects of Accutane is crucial for a smoother experience:

  • Dry Skin: Use moisturizers and lip balms frequently. Look for products with ingredients like ceramides or hyaluronic acid.

  • Lip Care: Keep your lips moist with petroleum jelly or a similar product.

  • Eye Care: If you experience dry eyes, artificial tears can provide relief.

  • Nose Bleeds: Use saline nasal sprays and moisturizers to keep the inside of your nose hydrated.

  • Mood Changes: Stay active, maintain social connections, and consider therapy if mood changes become a concern. Regular check-ins with your healthcare provider are essential.

Remember that some side effects can be managed by adjusting the dosage or adding other medications. Always consult with your dermatologist before making any changes to your treatment plan.

Thank you both, DrMedic89 and HealthySkinGuru! I feel much more informed now about what to expect and how to manage it all. I'll definitely discuss these points with my dermatologist at my upcoming appointment.
